My Skating Story

I started skating at the age of 3 in Blackpool. My parents used to take me to the rink before work, and then before school as I grew up. As I entered secondary school I was already competing across the country. I would be driven to the rink for the early training sessions on a school day before catching the bus and getting changed for school on site. As soon as lessons were finished I would hop on another bus to return to the rink and train again.

This pattern continued through school and saw me competing at the Junior level by the age of 18. At this point I made the hardest decision, I moved to Colorado (USA) to pursue my dreams. After 6 months of intense training I returned to the UK and started training in Coventry.

This was when I started to compete in the Senior Ladies category. Triple jumps, combination spins, and complex edge work were not just the standard, they were expected by all competitors. The step up was huge and it is a mark of pride that I have been able to compete at that level.

Moving to Oxford

In 2020 I made the difficult choice of moving from the solo side of the sport to pairs. I began training with my skating partner Harry. Initially we started training together in Coventry, but swiftly moved to Oxford. Then came COVID.

In order to still train during the lockdowns, we moved in together along with our respective partners. Our training consisted of off ice training in the garden. When rinks were eventually opened back up for national level athletes we would commute to the Solihull and Coventry rinks as those were the available ones.

Eventually the pandemic passed and we were able to return to Oxford to train. We medalled at the British Ice Skating National Championships in December 2021 and are currently ranked second in the country. In April 2023 we competed for Team GB in the ISU World Figure Skating Championships in Japan. Having represented our country at Worlds we are now firmly setting our sights on the Winter Olympics as competitors.

Sponsorship So Far

Competing at the international level in any sport is tough. There is the training, equipment, travel, and competition expenses. Working alongside high level training allows me to continue my professional athlete ambitions, however any sponsorship would be greatly welcome.

I am fortunate enough to be supported currently by the GLL Sport Foundation. Harry and I are serious competitors who are targeting the highest levels of competition and performance.
